New reading
New reading lets you turn a book into a personal reader. Bring your own text, say what you would like to do with it, and build an edition with a coding agent.
I designed and built the product, the reader kit, and a library of editions that show what you can make. Each begins with the book. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland lets you inspect Arthur Rackham’s illustrations. Pride and Prejudice follows words through the chapters. Antigone brings a burial dispute into focus through a funerary object. The Book of Tea has a small companion for making a cup while you read.
There is room to play, too. Homeward puts Odysseus and his crew in a small boat with a bag of winds and four crossings ahead. In Tea at Six, the guests at the Hatter’s table make increasingly unreasonable requests. The games sit beside the books, with a way back to your page.
The underlying reader keeps your place, passages and notes on your device and can work offline once the edition is saved. The kit is free and open source. A step-by-step guide takes you from choosing a book to making an edition of your own; you can also start with one from the library and ask for changes.
