Large Labor Model
The Large Labor Model is an interactive study of what people do for a living and how that work changes. It brings historical labor data together with a task-by-task model of what AI and robotics may be able to do.
The current model covers 480 occupations and 4,811 tasks. You can follow the changing composition of work from 1800, inspect occupations and their sources, and explore scenarios through 2041. The historical labor data and the capability scenarios are separate: a modeled ability to perform a task does not establish that an employer has adopted it or that a job will disappear.
I developed the project with AI coding and research tools, following early collaboration with Enya Trenholm-Jensen. The code, data and methodology are open for inspection and critique. The aim is to make a difficult conversation specific enough to examine: which tasks, under which assumptions, with what evidence?
